Veteran Filipino actor and director Ricky Davao has passed away at the age of 63, leaving behind a powerful legacy in the world of Philippine cinema and television. His death shocked the entertainment community and broke the hearts of fans who admired his decades-long dedication to the craft of storytelling.
Born Frederick Charles Davao on May 30, 1961, in Manila, he came from a family of artists, being the son of renowned actor Charlie Davao. Ricky’s journey in the entertainment world began in the late 1970s as a dancer, but it didn’t take long before his natural charisma and acting talent captured the spotlight.
Throughout the 1980s and beyond, Ricky Davao became a household name, known for his intelligent portrayals, emotional range, and versatility. Whether playing a hero, villain, father, or public figure, he brought depth and realism to every role.
He starred in numerous films and television shows, earning praise from critics and viewers alike. Some of his most notable performances include roles in Metamorphosis, On the Job 2: The Missing 8, Clarita, Killer Not Stupid, and Big Night!. More recently, he appeared in the suspense series Cattleya Killer.
Apart from acting, Ricky was also a respected director. He made his directorial debut in 1996 with an episode of the long-running drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya, and went on to direct several acclaimed projects that further solidified his position in the industry.
In 2020, he won Best Supporting Actor at the FAMAS Awards for his performance in Fuccbois, further proving his talent and relevance even decades into his career.
Ricky Davao’s personal life was also closely followed by the public. He married fellow actress Jackie Lou Blanco in 1989, and together they had three children before separating in 2011. Despite their separation, they remained respectful co-parents and even reunited on-screen in later years. In 2022, he confirmed his relationship with Malca Darocca.
His death was due to complications related to a serious illness he had been battling privately. Despite keeping the full details away from the public eye, Ricky remained active and committed to his craft until the very end.
Family, friends, and fans are mourning deeply. Tributes have flooded social media, with many calling him one of the finest actors of his generation. Colleagues described him as a “true gentleman on set,” “a mentor,” and “an irreplaceable artist.”
As funeral arrangements are being finalized, the entertainment industry prepares to bid farewell to a man who not only gave unforgettable performances but also lived with humility and grace.
Ricky Davao’s passing leaves a void that will not be easily filled. But his work, passion, and memory will continue to live on through every character he brought to life.
He is survived by his children and his partner, and the entire nation mourns with them.
