AlDub Phenomenon: It’s Showtime Producer Says ‘Pa-kidnap natin si Alden’

The AlDub Phenomenon greatly affected its rival show

The executive producer of the Kapamilya noontime show It’s Showtime revealed how the AlDub Phenomenon affected them.

It is the loveteam of Phenomenal Star Maine Mendoza and Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards. Their unexpected tandem started in the Kalyeserye portion of the segment Juan For All, All For One of the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga.

Viewers easily recognized the chemistry between them and they became an onscreen couple. This was in 2015 and beyond the noontime show, Alden and Maine’s popularity skyrocketed.

At that time, Eat Bulaga‘s rival show was It’s Showtime. In a recent interview on the YouTube channel Think Talk Tea, Trina Genova-Bitara shared that they had a hard time during the height of the AlDub Phenomenon.

They were challenged by the loveteam’s popularity to divert the people’s attention to their show. In the world of television, the ratings game is an important factor for a show’s success.

At that time, It’s Showtime’s ratings were greatly affected. With this, as an executive producer Trina admitted that they were really cramming at that time. They had to come up with something that could go against the AlDub Phenomenon.

Trina jokingly said that they almost thought of kidnapping Alden Richards just to stop the AlDub loveteam. “Gigil na gigil na kami sa AlDub, paano, ano ba’ng gagawin natin? Pa-kidnap natin si Alden,” the executive producer quipped.

She also revealed that she unfriended her friends on Facebook who watched the AlDub loveteam. It was indeed a pressure for them. Then, Trina shared that there was a time when they held the show at the Araneta Coliseum with three loveteams, KathNiel, JaDine, LizQuen, but still they did not surpass the AldDub tandem.

When they did this episode, that was also the same time when AlDub’s “unang pagkikita” happened. It was because Alden was in the studio while Maine was always with other hosts in remote locations.

Currently, It’s Showtime is also airing on GMA, Alden’s home network. When he guested on it’s showtime, Trina shared that they just said, “Nung nag guest siya sa Showtime, ‘Si Alden, siya yung gusto naming ipakidnap dati. ” she enthused.
