TV host and actress Toni Gonzaga isn’t oblivious to the harsh criticism she receives from her bashers online.

On Monday, the Pinoy Big Brother mainstay got candid about being subjected to hate messages by her critics on social media, citing that she would’ve been long gone if only their words could kill.

“Nakakatuwang magbasa ng assumptions ng tao. If words could kill, matagal na siguro akong patay at pinaglalamayan ngayon,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories.

But if there’s anything she learned from her decades-long career in showbiz, it’s that there’s nothing more powerful than what you tell yourself to believe. “Pero praise God because we are still here and surviving the harsh words against us and also for giving us the most powerful weapon to rebuke it. Other peoples’ words won’t kill you. You know what will? YOUR own.

“Be careful what you say to yourself. Only YOU can kill YOUR own future through YOUR words,” she added.

In a previous interview with columnist Ricky Lo for Philstar, Toni admitted that she’s a favorite subject of bashers to censure online. “Sobra! Isa ako sapinaka-bina-bash at pinaka-hini-hate,” she said.

“[But] I’ve learned the value of knowing what to ignore,” she added. “Three or four years ago, I admit that I was oh-so affected by bashers. But now, go ahead, they can flood the social media with all the bashings that they want.”

Toni began her showbiz career at the age of 13 and has accomplished a series of TV segments, commercials, teleseryes and films ever since; her last being the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Mary, Marry Me, also starring her sister Alex Gonzaga and Sam Milby. She’s also a recording artist – the 35-year-old star has produced a total of eight studio albums since 2002 and has sold out a number of major concerts since 2008.
