Ruby Ruiz shared her experience working with Nora Aunor

Seasoned actress Ruby Ruiz revealed the reason why she refused to be the PA or production assistant.

Ruby had the chance to share the same frame with the Superstar in the 1980 film Bona. In the movie, she played as the younger sister of Nora.

National Artist Lino Brocka directed this movie and he handpicked Ruby because of her resemblance to the Superstar, based on the article in PEP.

This was followed by two other movies, Thy Womb in 2012 which was shot in Tawi-Tawi, and Taklub in 2015, which was about the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda.

Ruby Ruiz shared that while working with Nora Aunor, unwittingly, she became an assistant of the National Artist for Film.

“Lagi niya akong kasama. Naging close na ako. Dahil ganun, pinangatawanan ko na—na parang PA [production assistant] niya ako. So ako ang nag-aabot ng ano [kailangan] niya. So siguro, dahil artista ako, alam ko ang pangangailangan,” she said.

Ruby would give Nora’s slippers, and the latter appreciated this. With this, the Superstar asked her. “Tapos yun nga, sabi niya, ‘Puwede bang sa akin ka na lang?’ ‘Saan?’ sabi kong ganun,” Ruby shared.

Then, Nora said that she wanted to Ruby to be her PA. The latter, said, “‘Hindi puwede, Ate Guy,’” which received a reply, “‘Bakit? Ayaw mo ba ako? Hindi mo ba ako mahal?’”

Ruby answered, “‘Ate Guy, pangarap kong maging ikaw, e!’” With this, Nora laughed so hard but showed support for Ruby.

After seven years, Ruby had her first lead role in 2019 through the movie Iska for the Cinemalaya Film Festival in which she received the Best Actress trophy. Ruby was 58 years old when this happened.

After Nora Aunor’s death on April 16, Ruby Ruiz was one of the many celebrities who paid tribute to the Superstar.
